Maryville R-II Parents and Community Members,
If I have not had the opportunity to meet you yet, my name is Logan Lightfoot. Since July, I have had the privilege of serving as our superintendent. We have such a wonderful school district because of the strong support of our community. In just a few short months, I have enjoyed seeing our students achieve so many milestones in our classrooms and fields of competition. Indeed, for the past, the present, and the future, it’s wonderful to be a Spoofhound!
In July, I met with our Board of Education to discuss important issues that we face as a school district. One of the top priorities we identified was the need to develop a collaborative, long-range plan for our school district facilities. The term “facilities” includes all areas in which our students receive educational experiences. These include current buildings, classrooms in each of our buildings, needs for future learning spaces, and outdoor athletic complexes. Simply put, we have a long history of high achieving students and top-notch staff. We want to make sure we provide the best resources for our students and staff that we can to continue our high levels of achievement. We have taken several steps already as we create a long-range plan. Some of these steps include gathering feedback from our teachers and staff members, working with engineers to assess our buildings, and reviewing these initial findings.
Now we would like to hear from you. Some of you might have current students in our school system, some might not. Wherever your journey is as a community member, you bring a unique perspective that we value. Over the coming weeks, we want to provide opportunities to hear from our community and patrons. There are two ways we are doing this:
Community Engagement Night: Please join us on April 19, 2023 at 6:30pm in our Performing Arts Center. On this evening, we will have an architect from Incite Design Studio briefly talk to the audience about our facilities. Most importantly, we will gather feedback from attendees concerning our facilities, and important issues moving forward as we develop our long-range plan.
Community Survey: Whether or not you are able to attend the Community Engagement Night, we encourage you to complete a brief survey. This survey will highlight potential areas for improvement, and identified priorities for our school district facilities. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback.
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to participate. It is our goal to develop a plan that provides a clear roadmap, addresses needs that will continue to make Maryville R-II a top-tier school district, and allows us to be responsible stewards of our funds and resources. I would be more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to meet with me. Sincerely,
Dr. Logan Lightfoot
